Security Advisory - Input Validation Vulnerability in Huawei VP9660 Products

VP9660 is the multi-point control unit of Huawei Video Conference system.

The server of the Huawei VP9660 does not validate the input when using build-in WebServer. In such case, an attacker could log in to the device as an business administrator, graft a message to change the specific information, and send them to the server to inject malicious commands, leading to information leakage or device unavailability. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2015-08039)

This vulnerability has been assigned Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) ID: CVE-2015-8227.

This vulnerability can be exploited by attackers to inject malicious commands to make information leaking or the device unavailable. 


The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv2 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/).

Temporal Score: 7.0 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)


Prerequisite:

  1. The attacker logs in to the VP9660 as an business administrator.
  2. The vulnerability exists when VP9660 uses a built-in WebServer.

Attacking procedure:

The attacker logs in to the VP9660 as a business administrator. The attacker grafts a message to change the specific information and sends them to the server. The server does not validate the input parameters completely. Then, the attacker can inject malicious commands to make information leaking or the device unavailable.
